Love it or hate it, Canggu is still one of the most popular towns in Bali when planning the perfect holiday itinerary. Roads are busy, beaches are crowded, but the coastline is still insanely beautiful, there are great restaurants and cute cafes, gyms and yoga studios, and so much more.
Where to stay in Canggu? There is no shortage of hotels, guesthouses, and Airbnb in Canggu – you will be spoiled for choice. That said, prices are steep, especially in high season from June to September, so you will want to make sure you get the most for your money.
I am sharing my favorite Canggu hotels and guesthouses, for various budgets. If you are surprised that this is list is quite small keep in mind that I have tried and tested all of the hotels myself so you can get a true impression of what they are like. I will expand this list during future trips and update, of course.

Where to stay in Canggu, Bali – the best areas
Canggu is located about 10 miles/ 15 km from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on the south coast of Bali. Well, somewhat south, that is, considering that Ulawatu is even further south. You have a long stretch of black beach in Canggu with different roads leading to the ocean. The favorites are Jalan Pantai Berawa, Jalan Nelayan, and Jalan Pantai Batu Balong. There is also Echo Beach connected through Jalan Pantai Batu Mejan, and furthest west, Jalan Pantai Pererenan.
These roads can be more or less busy, but Canggu’s big traffic problems are due to the lack of connecting roads between those main streets. Jalan Raya Canggu is the biggest one and runs further inland, while the infamous Canggu Shortcut, connecting Nelayan and Berwawa, hasn’t been a shortcut in years thanks to round-the-clock congestion.
Why am I telling you this? To make sure you choose your accommodation wisely, because going from one neighborhood to the next is not as fast or easy as Google Maps may imply, even if you are on a motorbike. Using a taxi always takes ages, and most roads are not really walkable.
Pick a beach or area that you like, choose your Canggu accommodation accordingly, and try to stay in the vicinity. So, where to stay in Canggu? Here is a little overview of the different neighborhoods and my favorite hotels.

Hotels on Jalan Nelayan
If you are into fitness, Jalan Nelayan is one of the best areas to stay in Canggu. Here you will find the infamous Body Factory, Zycle, Serenity Yoga, and many more. It is also the home of Kynd and plenty of health-food cafes.
So yes, you will run into gym bros and their sidekicks, pilates girlies, and smoothie-drinking yogis, and yes, I tend to join them when I am staying in Canggu. I love to hate Jalan Nelayan…
ZIN Canggu Resort & Villas
ZIN is a lot more than a hotel in Canggu; it is a little empire. Home of Zycle, a well-known cafe and coworking space, a boutique, and a small spa as well as a hotel If you are looking for an accommodation close to the beach, this is it, as Nelayan Beach is only a few steps away.
While I frequently go to the great spinning classes at Zycle and work at the cafe, I was curious to try the hotel part for myself. After all, the pools and cute bamboo structures are all beyond the ‘guests only’ sign.
While one of the pools in the center of the complex is quite nice, the second one in the back sits right by a river/sewage. I guess that’s Canggu for you, but scenic it ain’t.
When choosing your room, you need to a) pack earplugs and b) communicate very clearly to get the quietest room possible. I completely understand that it isn’t the hotel’s fault, but Canggu gets very loud at night if you are staying close to the beach. The closer you stay to reception, the quieter it will actually be.
The rooms themselves are lovely – a bit modern, a bit boho. You can choose between Hobbit-House-looking bamboo rooms, private pool villas, and junior suites. You usually get a welcome drink and breakfast, and can even have it delivered to your room for free. Sometimes there are extra perks like a free Zycle class, a 15-minute massage, and a discount at their boutique.
Krishna Homstay
Krishna Homstay is my home away from home in Canggu. While the prices of Canggu hotels are a bit out of control these days, this one is more than affordable and so cute.
Rooms are quite small and very simple, but beds are comfortable, they have really strong air conditioning, good wifi, and a nice hot shower. Again, the only downside is the size and it might get a bit cramped if you are traveling with two, but for a humble solo traveler, it is perfect!
Each room has a little patio with a table, chairs, and a clothing rack, and there is a communal outdoor kitchen and tables for breakfast. They also have a nice big pool in the back, and the staff is just all around lovely.
A big plus: You have to walk down a tiny alley to get there (or take a bike) and while it iss not far from the main road, this means it is reasonably quiet.
Rama Village Canggu
If you like the location of Krishna but want to upgrade your stay a bit, book yourself into Rama Village, which belongs to the same owner. It is located at the back of the complex next to the pool.
Rooms are a bit more “done” and bigger. You get a better bathroom, a proper duvet, and some more amenities – perfect if you want a more hotel experience.
Prices are still super reasonable, so this would be my recommendation if you are not traveling alone, as the rooms are better sized.
Hotels in Berawa
Berawa is a very sought-after area in Canggu to stay in. The beach is home to the famous Canggu beach club Finns, but other than that, it is way more relaxed than other areas. Cute cafes and boutiques and an overall chilled vibe (at least for Canggu standards) await.
Aviator
Aviator is a good budget-friendly option if you want to stay in Berawa. It is tucked away at the end of a small road, meaning it is pretty quiet.
The hotel was recently refurbished and now sports an aviation theme, as the name implies. Rooms are modern, quite big, and very comfortable, though bathroom amenities (at least in my room) were either old or simply not properly redone. Not a biggie though…
I stayed in a King Studio, which also comes with a big, cozy couch, desk, table, and a really well-equipped kitchenette and a small balcony.
There are no other amenities at the hotel but a tiny pool in the back and a small reception desk. Not a problem if you are an intrepid traveler and don’t expect concierge service, though – the price makes up for it!
Hotels on Batu Balong
If you want to go surfing but don’t know the way around a board yet, Batu Balong is a great beach to start. There are plenty of beginner-friendly waves in addition to some of the coolest beach clubs and restaurants. The rest of the road is equally trendy – you definitely don’t come here for peace and quiet.
The Bohemian
The Bohemian is probably my new favorite hotel in Canggu, and if you are looking for an intimate, stylish stay on Batu Balong, you can’t do better.
Rooms are dark, sleek, and a bit moody, and a nice blend of natural materials and the latest high tech. In the center of the property, there is a beautiful pool. While the hotel isn’t big, I’d recommend you ask for a room upstairs if you want privacy, as some rooms are directly adjacent to the pool.
Breakfast is served on a huge communal table, and you can also order cocktails and dinner.
A special nod goes to the excellent service. The staff is always available via WhatsApp and incredibly kind. They also offer a buggy shuttle that will take you as far as Batu Balong beach.
As far as location goes, the Bohemian is close enough to all the action but still quiet enough so you can look forward to a relaxed stay and a good nigth’s sleep. Plus, it is directly opposite one of my favorite Canggu restaurants, Casa Tua Canggu.
The Slow
If you are looking for a design hotel in Canggu, you will have to check out the Slow. It was probably the first of its kind. A bit of Tropical Brutalism, a bit of traditional Bali craftsmenship, and a bit of chic surfer vibe meet at the Slow.
Sometimes you wish form would follow function, but rooms are incredibly cool and beautifully appointed. For those wanting to take a dip in the morning, some rooms on the ground floor even have a plunge pool, but you aren’t far from the beach either.
The area is vibey, and there are often events and art exhibits at the hotel, too. It isn’t a retreat, but the Slow’s customers like to be in the center of the action.
Accommodation in Pererenan
I guess Bali affinandos might argue whether Pererenan is still part of Canggu, but to me it is. The town’s borders are ever-expanding, and while Pererenan isn’t quite as quiet as it used to be, it is definitely less busy than other parts of Canggu.
Further
Having been to Bar Vera a few times, I always admired the building it is located in and was keen to explore Further, the hotel it now houses. The style is similar to the Slow, with lots of Tropical Brutalist touches, and as sleek and understated as it can get.
I love this style, and I don’t mind paying for it, but I wish the service was equally on par. Little things during the check-in process and room amenities (ice for your cute pre-mixed cocktails would be nice!) can definitely be improved upon.
Important to note: When you make your booking, you have to pay attention to your room’s location. Between a few different room categories, they also have three different buildings – not all the rooms are in the main complex where the rooftop pool and Bar Vera are.
Mine was the only room located in the Urban Studio building. They do have a buggy shuttle, but the wait is often quite long. I recommend you book a room in the main building so you don’t have to rely on it.
Urban Design Loft
If Further is out of your budget but you like to stay in Pererenan, I cannot recommend these Airbnbs enough. I have become very picky when choosing an Airbnb in Canggu, or in Bali in general, as I usually find them either overpriced or underwhelming or both, but this one is a gem!
There are a few lofts in the same building, all similar in style. You get a beautiful cool loft with a nice flow of living/ working/ sleeping space and a well-equipped kitchen. Great if you want to take a break from dining out and make your own food – Pepito supermarket isn’t far either.

Stay north of Raya Canggu
If you want to stay in Canggu but don’t like to be in the center of traffic jams and never-ending parties, pick an accommodation above Raya Canggu. Just keep in mind that you will be quite far from the beaches and will most likely need a scooter or a car to get around.
Kalapa Boutique Resort & Yoga
So many travelers come to Bali to do yoga, and while Ubud is definitely the spiritual center of the island, you can, of course, find countless retreats and studios in Canggu as well.
Kalapa is one of them. While it does mention yoga in its name, it is also just a beautiful hotel in Canggu, tucked away from the hustle and bustle. You sleep in stunning rooms or cottages decorated with traditional Indonesian furniture, surrounded by lush green gardens.
There are two pools on the property, a small spa, and, of course, a yoga room with daily classes. Unlike other yoga retreats in Bali, you don’t have to book for a certain number of nights but can stay however long you would like – classes are booked on top.
They also have a really nice restaurant on the property, and don’t worry – just because Kalapa offers yoga, it doesn’t mean you can’t get a glass of wine or Mie Goreng.
