Where to stay in Mexico? Let me introduce you to the dreamiest Tulum Airbnb – for solo travelers, couples, and families!
What Bali is to South East Asia, Tulum is to Mexico. Hippie vibes remain at least in a few places, yoga and beach parties go hand in hand, and both are preferred destinations for digital nomads when the temperatures drop in the rest of the world. I love both spots for their great food and amazing diving.
Tulum in particular is a great option for those looking for a more permanent base as Mexico gives many nationalities an easy 6-months visa on arrival. If you are looking for something long-term, there are many rentals in Tulum that will probably be suitable and which are easier to come by once you are on the ground. But if you are just looking for a holiday home I recommend you check out one of the many Tulum Airbnb – most of which are quite Instagram-worthy too!
Airbnb and Vrbo are great options if you are staying anywhere from a week to a month as they are easy to arrange even before you arrive and are usually less expensive than a hotel.
Mind you, sometimes it can be quite a schlepp to sort through and find one that is just right for you. Luckily you have a little truffle pig aka me at your disposal who has a sixth sense when it comes to great accommodation options. I have set to work and put together a list of what I consider the best Airbnb in Tulum – for all sorts of budgets.
favorite Tulum Airbnb

Whether you stay in Tulum Town or Tulum Playa, will depend on your budget and interests. Most of the beachfront is closed off by fancy hotels and beach clubs, and while beaches are officially public it can be hard to find a path between those properties to sneak through. There aren’t really many Airbnbs in Tulum that offer a short walk to the beach. If you are staying on the beach you will have to bike everywhere (it is between 4,5 km and 7 km to town) or take taxis which can add up. You could always rent a car but if you do make sure your accommodation offers free parking.
There are a few good eateries on the beach, but I think that you can find the best restaurants with authentic food in town. You will also have easy access to transportation to other parts of the Yucatan peninsula.
Tulum beach is a bit more vibey thanks to glitzy hippie parties and spectacular views, but you will need to fight with the Instagram crowds and fork out a lot more money to stay there. Tulum Town is a bit more authentic and chilled, and definitely a lot friendlier on your wallet.
With that said, I have put my efforts into finding you the best Tulum Airbnb in or within a short walk from town.

If you are looking for the best Tulum Airbnbs on a budget you have come to the perfect place. Chances are if you are used to prices in South East Asia, rentals in Tulum may come as shock to you (they did to me during my first trip!).
Finding a decent Tulum Airbnb for under $50 per night is not so easy and they will definitely not be within walking distance from the beach.
However, I have searched Vrbo for hours and found the best places out there if you are on a budget.

Tips for BOOKING A VBRO or AIRBNB IN TULUM, MEXICO

If you are not familiar with the booking process from Airbnb or Vrbo here are a few tips:
- Most properties will offer you a discount if you stay for a week or even a month. This discount can be quite significant so it might be worth checking out the price difference between a 6-day stay or a 7-day stay.
- All properties on both platforms add a service fee for cleaning and a booking fee on top of the daily rate. This can increase the price quite a bit and in general, it will be cheaper the longer you stay.
- The prices shown at the property above are high season prices during the summer but don’t include fees. Keep in mind that rates will fluctuate in general so off-season will be cheaper than Christmas or during the holiday seasons.
- Both platforms offer beds in dorms, rooms in a private home, rooms in a hotel or apartment complexes as well as entire homes. Some will also offer or include breakfast, airport transfers, and laundry. Check beforehand what you require in terms of space and service – you can add requests like a living room, a dining area, or a pool to your search criteria.
- You will only get the exact address of a property after your booking is completed. However, if you are set on a certain area you can also use the map function to search properties that are approximately in that area.
- If you can’t book your chosen Tulum Airbnb for the dates you need, check if the host has other properties. Often hosts have more than one room and it is worth checking out or even sending a message to ask.
