My main reason for wanting to go to Scotland was Outlander. There – I said it! But if you have read the books or watched the series, you will know that is a damn good reason, albeit one a little embarrassing to come from a fully grown adult.

What or whom I was expecting to find is a story for another day, but I liked the idea of misty Highlands, men in kilts and finally becoming a whisky connoisseur if only to warm up because really who goes on a road trip in Scotland in November?

Coming to London, Baby?! 9 things I learned about the Old Smoke & a beautiful city even in the rain.

Last weekend I went to London for work and let’s just say the trip started less than fortunate. After two months of lolling in the South African sun, I am broke, and London seemed like a great idea to introduce myself for some freelance gigs. Wanting to get there as quickly as possible for some meetings which would hopefully turn into such gigs, I picked one of the worst weeks to go to London: Fashion Week. With that it seemed the city was crowded and overflowing with fashionistas, established and aspiring, and nobody cared that I was coming to town. Luckily my friend Serena did care and offered to host me in her first ever London flat (an expensive rarity), even buying a guest duvet and sheets for me

I was and still am a total history geek. History was my favorite subject in school, which I aced with ease (it was the only subject, so I am allowed to brag a little) and nothing makes me quite as happy as reading a great historical novel. I love everything about Elenor of Aquitaine, the War of the Roses and pretty much all there is to English history especially. And yes, I do know that Eleanor was French, in case there are any other history geeks reading this and sitting up now to correct me. And, of course, there is Henry the VIII. He really holds a special place in my heart. I mean really, no soap opera could ever come up with a story like this and get away with it!
